Hi, I am a New Zealand National age 41. I predict that New Zealand will be the next county to legalize canabis and I want to come to Canadia to work in the industry to study and learn as much as I can before starting my company in new zealand. As I am unable to study this in my own country. Is there anyway that I can obtain a visa to help me do this as realise I am too old for a IEC visa. Can anyone here help me please.

I am coming over for a holiday in 3 months so if there is any immigration companies that could help me while I am there, I love love their details. Thanking you in advance.

Kind Regards

Eamon

Likely not feasible due to the difficulty in getting a work permit.

You need to get a closed work permit in order to be able to work in Canada. To qualify for a closed work permit, you need to get a job offer from an employer in Canada and that employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA. The LMIA process typically takes 4-6 months for an employer to complete. The first step is to advertise the job for a minimum of one month through at least three approved job posting methods to prove no Canadian could be found for the role and your specific skills/experience is required. Generally speaking, it's extremely difficult to find employers willing to go through this process (due to the cost and length of time with no guarantee of approval).

Immigration company can't help you (anyone offering you a work permit in exchange for money is a scammer). If you want to have a real go at trying to qualify for a closed work permit, you need to apply for jobs through reputable job portals (preferably through company web sites directly) and hope you find an employer willing to go through the LMIA process.

Oddly enough Eamon, I work for the largest Canadian Cannabis company. I would advise that unless your a GW Pharma Geneticist looking for work or a PhD. Biologist there is nothing that makes you stand out (sorry) to the degree that you would get through Immigration Canada and get a LMIA. You must also realize we are a 15 billion dollar company. A company that is into plant genetics, pharmaceuticals and yes good old pot. But all of this Eamon is a trade secret. Our patents is where there is a lot of money tied up. So I guess what I am trying to say is that you just do not casually walk in and get a gardening job. Nor can we allow anyone to study and LEAVE?? with Proprietary data (you can leave if you sign all the Privacy agreements.). But there is opprotunity here for you Eamon. Near Niagara on the Lake is a 1.4 million sq. ft. facility and a very good community college near it. If you had this course you would definitly rate a interview at any one of many, many companies.

You can also Google: Durham College, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, McGill University, Community College of New Brunswick, Loyalist College, University of Ottawa, St. Francis Xavier University, Ryerson University, UBC and Olds College. Cannabis plants and facilities are scattered throughout Canada. But the primary growth areas (green houses) are in Southern Ontario and BC. Lemington, Ontario is just above the border of Northern California (almost the same latitude). So it has good Cannabis and Wine potential.

Here is the FDA Approval of the drug Epidiolex (GW Pharma). It treats 2 forms of chilhood epilipsey.

Here is the site address of Shoppers Drug Mart's (Canada'a largest drug store chain) and their really superb collection of Medical Cannabis.

Also if you just want to have fun there is the recreational Ontario Cannabis Store.

Finally, if you are an educator/teacher you probably wonder how your going to teach about all this stuff. In fact Ontario's Cannabis consumption has gone DOWN since legalization. Here is a curriculum (68 pgs.) for elementary-high school students from the CSSDP. Ontario schools have this in their documentation.

NOTE: MINORS AND TEENS (under 19) MUST NOT CONSUME CANNABIS AT ALL. IT IMPACTS BRAIN DEVELOPMENT. YOU MUST BE 19 TO CONSUME CANNABIS OR ALCOHOL IN ONTARIO. DO NOT COMBINE ALCOHOL AND CANNABIS YOU'LL JUST GET SICK. VAPE CANNABIS DO NOT ALLOW COMBUSTION. NEVER COMBINE TOBACCO AND CANNABIS. DO NOT CONSUME CANNABIS FOR 6 HOURS BEFORE DRIVING. NEVER DRIVE STONED AND/OR DRUNK. NEVER CONSUME CANNABIS BEFORE OR DURING WORK. Our companies motto is, "GO LOW AND SLOW" IF NOT EXPERIENCED.
