Hi there,

Curiously, theoretically, will any types of "physically present in Canada" being counted into the 730 days?

Could you help to clarify, under following situation, will the "travel" in Canada being calculated into the 730 days?
e.g.
2000-1-1, landing as PR
2000-4-1, leave Canada
2000-5-1, back to Canada
2000-6-1, leave
2000-7-1, back
2000-8-1, leave
2000-9-1, back
2000-12-1, leave
2002-11-1, back (for travel and check the different cities of Canada with fiancee, to help to decide the settle city and house)
2002-11-6, leave
2003-4-1, back

If the person lives in Canada after 2003, when s/he wants to apply a new PR card, can the the 6 days: 2002-11-1 to 2002-11-6 being counted into the 730 days?

Thank you.

Only days in the previous 5 years at time of application count. So if you apply today you need to show minimum 730 days in the 5 years back to Dec 28 2014, any days prior to that are not relevant

As for travel out of / into Canada then even in Canada for a single minute that counts as a full day in Canada for residency purposes. But as said only in the 5 years preceding the application date for a new card or the 5 years preceding each new entry to Canada.

Bs65, thank you for the reply.
Just to make sure the "short travel" will be counted in, as you answered, "even for a single minute counts". It was just example duration in OP, understood only days in the previous years at time of application count.

Thank you and happy new year.

To clarify that any presence indicator you plan to use only works in days not partial days or hours or minutes. So if for example you left Canada on Dec 30 and returned Jan 01 you would be in Canada on both those days but not Dec31. Just the date that counts not how long hrs/min wise on either day as you would still be in Canada on both those days.

It seems like OP landed in 2017 and spent 150 days in Canada, 12 days in 2018 and was gone all of or most of 2019. You will have to be careful how long you spend in China now if you still want to meet your RO to sponsor your spouse. I know that sometimes leaving for a month or two leads to many months and when you return from China to sponsor your future wife or common law spouse you must be prepared to remain in Canada for one year. A very short vacation may be possible but you seem to be working in China. When you are a tax resident in Canada (through you or your family) you will have to pay taxes on any income you are getting from China.
