hello all,i m new to ur forum and found it really helpful.i need to ask a question regarding my husband.i m a canadian citizen,sponsored my husband.he landed in canada in sep 2011.we both are doctors and currently working in UAE ,wants to move to Canada in 2014 for good.my husbands PR card will expire in 2016 ,so we will complete our 2 yr time to keep PR status..my question is if we will stay more that 3 yrs in canada after 2014,will my husband still be eligible to apply for citizenship.or will he has to stay 3 yrs in the first 5 yrs after landing to canada..plz help guys..can't leave job till 2014 here in UAE.thanks

1. Citizenship and maintaining PR status are 2 distinct subjects. Your spouse can maintain his PR status by remaining in Canada for 2 years in every 5 or is accompanying a Canadian citizen spouse overseas, or works for a Canadian company.
2. For citizenship, your spouse will have to reside in Canada for 3 years in the 4 years prior to his application for citizenship. If he returns in 2014 he would be eligible to apply for citizenship in 2017.
