Hi Friends,
I'm just wondering whether it will be easier to get a study permit if I already have a multiple entry visitor visa and had visited Canada before. I believe my case is quite complicated because of the fact that I'm opting for an advanced diploma in a different field of study after my bachelor's with no gap. I'm preparing good SOP. So, As I have asked, Does having a valid visitor visa (i.e TRV) increase the likelihood of study permit approval? Thanks in advance. For those who have applied, I sincerely hope that y'all will get your study permit approved.

It does help in your application with regards to Travel history. If you lawfully visited Canada and did not go beyond the authorized stay they will believe that you are following the immigration law of Canada.

So, I assume that means I have already proved good ties to my home country and likely won't be suspected as long as I show good amount of funds in my bank account and a Good SOP.

There are too many factors. Each visa office has its own procedure or standards with regards to granting student visa.
Here are different factors for refusal
· Travel history

· Immigration status in country of residence

· Family ties in Canada and in Country of residence

· Length of proposed stay in Canada

· Purpose of visit

· Employment prospect in country of residence

· Current employment situation

· Personal assets and financial status

· Your history of having contravened the condition of admission on a previous stay in Canada

If you can satisfy that then it would be great.
Its hard to satisfy the visa officer for "Purpose of visit" so better do a good job.
Good luck!

Sounds like you are pretty familiar with this stuff. Thanks for taking your time to reply. I would like to tell the truth. I always wanted to do something which might help my dad's business in long run. It's a moderate scale business with more than 15 branches in the state. So, We have plenty of computers to look after and networking is major part of our business (I chose Computer Systems Technology). So, Will it be helpful if I mention in the SOP that my dad would need me for Business and of course, I'm the heir apparent which serves to be a proof for ties to home country. All my immediate relatives are based in India. As I said earlier, my degree is not related to what I'm choosing now. It's my only concern. So, If the Visa Officer is convinced that I will return back, he/she will more likely grant me study permit. I've strong ties to my home country and that's how I ended up with a visitor visa.

may I know your background for previous studies?

Sure, I did my bachelors in Visual Communication and I have applied for diploma in Computer systems technology immediately after finishing my degree classes. That's why I said I'm changing the field of study. I had good grades till 10th grade but got below average marks in 12th grade which eventually forced me to take up visual communication. I've attended few IT quizzes during my school days.
