Hi, all! I got a good offer recently from a Canadian program, but I am still waiting for the results from US schools. I knew I should wait until April to make the final decision but considering it will take very long waiting time to get a study permit for international students, I want to apply it asap. However, I am also concerning if I will get into any trouble if I was approved but chose to not go to the school, such as leaving a black record to the government and possibly effect my future visa application in Canada.

May I ask how these work? Thank you all!

I would advise not to add another backlog and officer's time if you dont have intention to come. that time could be used to process someone else application. Alternatively, you can wait until you are for certain want to study in Canada and apply.

Attending a school or not is your choice. If you are granted a visa and you decide not to attend, it has no bearing on your future visa application. However, you will have to declare this in your future applications that you applied before. It will rather be a positive sign, that you were granted a visa before, not a negative aspect. YOu should also include a reason why you did not attend before.
