I'm just wondering whether I will be getting updates in my email as soon as the status changes from processing to medical passed, reviewing eligibility,etc given that I already have linked my paper application with my CIC account.

No you won;t be. My sister never got any updates or notifications on her email. You will have to manually log into the account to check the status. If you would have applied online then yes.
