Wife travelling alone with child

It looks like I'll have to return to Canada while we wait for my wife's PR to be approved. Our daughter (half Thai, half Canadian, born in Thailand, has both passports) will be staying with my wife.

When my wife is eventually allowed in to Canada, she'll be taking her son and our daughter with her. Will she need any documents from me showing that she has permission to take our daughter out of Thailand?

I'm sure this has been asked 1000 times, but I couldn't think of the right search terms to find what I wanted :p

What I would do is write a letter and sign it. I'd probably get it certified...I'd also include a copy of my passport, birth certificate, and any other relevant documents.

It shouldn't be a problem, just make sure your wife has duplicate sets, just in case she needs to give one set to the Thai authorities and another set to the Canadian authorities.

Good luck!

Yes definately make sure you give your wife a permission letter with the dates she will be travelling included in it. THe last time I went to visit my husband, I got caught up at customs coming back into Canada with our son. All I had was our son's passport and they almost didn't let me thru... Apparently there is a program out that they are trying to stop children from flying undocumented, this is what the CO told me anyways. They told me if this happens again I will be in BIG trouble...

They told me I need a signed letter with child's details and details of flight included in letter and my husbands permission and signature...

Just explain what you wrote here...and give the dates when you think she will be leaving for Canada...but I'd just say that as your wife, of course she has your permission to travel with your kids...

I thought the same thing, but as I was travelling with my son and not my husband it was questioned and I was heavily warned... This case might be different as they will be "landing" but I would cover your tracks... as soon as her flight is booked, fax her the letter with the dates... don't take chances. THis is something new they are cracking down on hard!!! They don't know that you are in Canada waiting for her... they might think she is running from you with the kid... (that is what they said to me). And carry the child's birth certificate to prove who the parents are... YOur letter won't mean anything if your name isn't on the childs birth certificate!

Please trust me on this and don't assume they will assume the obvious or the most positive outcome!

Yes, Canada is very particular about having both parents' permission for minor's travel. In fact, they used to encourage folks to get the letters approving travel notarized at Embassies/Consulates abroad. They've backed off on that now given workloads (and some Embassies/Consulates won't do it anymore at all).

I traveled to the UK with my son to visit my husband and I had to bring a signed document from my husband stating that I will be traveling with our son on so and so date at this time from Toronto, Ontario to London, England. My husband had to take this to a solicitor to be signed and stamped. You also have to bring the childs birth certificate. So be sure you have it because they will check at Customs. Hope this helped you! :)

I'll be flying alone with my toddler to Canada and my husband used a form I found on google to give me permission and notarized it.
