Hi, I'm sponsoring my wife for PR and we just submitted our application beginning of January. Currently she is working in Canada through the International Experience program. Her work permit is set to expire end of June. I'm not sure what to do...we didn't realize we could submit an open work permit application with the PR application.

My main concern is that I won't get first stage approval for the PR application and get approval for her open work permit application before her international experience work permit expires.

What are my options? Do we still send an open work application? Should we send it to where we sent our PR application? Her employer seems keen to sponsor her for a work permit, would that be faster? We're hoping that she can continue to work and live in Canada while we wait out this PR application process.

I really appreciate any advice in this matter.

Thank you!

Did you apply outland or inland?

Edit: If you applied inland, there is now a pilot program allowing you to apply for OWP as soon as you get Acknowledgment of Receipt (less time than stage 1). If you applied outland, you're not entitled to an OWP but by June you'll probably have finished the whole process (I guess it actually depends on your country, but my country says 15 months for processing time and it was done in 6 months).

I didn't realize you can apply for open work permit once you get acknowledgement of receipt. We are applying inland, do you have any idea how long it takes to get acknowledgement of receipt?

Thanks!

Yeah it just started on January 1st.

It took me 5 months to get AOR with my inland application, but some people have received it in a month the last time I checked. You should go to the thread for Inland Applications 2014 for more accurate information, see what the latest trends are. They have a spreadsheet and everything.
