why my brother got study permit for one year

my brother is enrolled in 2year program but he got only one year study permit??? any idea is it ok?? thanks for help

May be passport is valid for only one year. Anyway, he can always apply Online for visa extension at Case Processing Centre, Vegreville, Alberta.
