Why is CIC asking me to fill in form IMM5257E while I'm already in Canada?

I'm trying to extend my TRV (expiring this July). I have an open work permit till 2019 and has already submitted my PR application.

In the questionnaire, I indicated that my current country of residence is Canada but why is the application checklist asking me to fill in Application for Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa) Made Outside of Canada (IMM5257)?

IMM 5257 is standard application form for TRV, its used for both from outside and inside of Canada.
I have filled that from both type of application from inside as well as outside of Canada.

Ah I see now. Thank you. How did it work after you applied within Canada? Did you have to send in your passport for them to place a new visa or they will send that to you?

I always filed online application, either from within or outside canada.
From within canada once you get passport request, you have to send your passport to Ottawa,
Please include an extra priority pre-paid envelope from canad-post with your address on it for them to send it back to you with tracking number.
This way you can track your passport both ways and you will get your passport in timely manner.
If you don't send pre-paid, they will send your passport back in general mail with no tracking.

If you sending via regular mail, it would take about 15 to 20 days depending on where you live.
but if you are sending via express priority mail, it will be really quick.

Thanks. It should be fine if I apply now. I was worried it would take forever because I have an exam on June 3 that requires passport for verification.

Hey, another question is how long did it take you from the time you submitted your online application to the time they requested you to send your passport in? I am getting confusing info on the processing time.

CIC says it would take 8 days for online application under Visitor Visa from within Canada but also says it would take 68 days under online Visitor Extention. I am not sure which category I fall under. My current TRV has not expired yet.

Last year i did my TRV, processing time at that time was 5 business day, got done really quickly at that time.
and TRV is Visitor visa hence 8 days will apply to you, visitor extension is for visitor permit without work or study visa, i might be wrong but I had the same situation and it took 5 business days.

Hello Guys!
Please I need some help. I am just confused. I am applying for work permit visa outside canada and Im doing it online. In the online application you are required to filled up the IMM5257e instead of IMM1295e.
I understand that both are trv, but IMM5257e is only for tourist. The application that i have to upload online doesn’t include the IMM1295e (application for work permit made outside canada) i dont see it on the list to upload. What will I do? Please help!
