Hey guys so when I first arrived Canada one of the immigration officer issued my friend a work permit along with her study permit. She majors in exact same major as me in the same school and co-op is honestly not mandatory (optional). My question is how come they issue work permit only to her but didn't give me one when I requested at the immigration in the airport? They did ask me if i'm going to work but since co-op is optional i said i'm not sure. I'm assumingI screwed up from that moment when i said that but it looks like they give out work permit like ramdomly, like by asking if you are going to work or not. It's a mystery. Should I go to the airport and ask them for my work permit again saying that I'm going to work like my friend did?

Not sure what the issue is. If you decide to do a co-op, just apply for the permit. You can't go to the airport; you would need to apply to IRCC.
