WHV IEC Quotas announced 2026

As expected for 2026 IEC WHV numbers have been reduced

Australia which used to have an unlimited number , has now a cap of 5600

Last year Australia had 9600 applications

IRCC is in the process of updating all countries quotas

IEC quotas are based on discussion with each member country so Australia is also limiting the number for Canadians going to Australia. Wondering if Canada is saying that they will not accept that many workers or vice versa.

I think it was Canada .
Australia has a unemployment rate of 4.3%
While Canada has a rate nationally of 6.8%

Higher when you look at individual provinces
Toronto’s is north of 8%

Plus Canada has mentioned they were going to reduce the number of temporary work permits issued
Reducing the quota for different countries would have been an easy way to do this

Many Australians go and work in the resorts of the Rockies. Which are typically low wage jobs
When I was in Banff last year almost every person I encountered either in stores or restaurants had an Australian accent

Whistler too. This will impact people who plan to go for next year's ski season and think they can apply in the summer. Quotas will be full. Wonder what UK and France's quotas will be.
