Hi Everyone,

Just wondering which bank is good for newcomers in Canada. Also wondering since Scotia bank has branches in india, can it used as a local branch for making transfers. Please share your thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

If you are planning to live in ON, AB, BC, SC, NF then choose CIBC & TD both offer free banking to newcomers for a year (RBC as well)
I am with CIBC since sep 2009, when I arrived to Canada as student and I found is better than RBC, Scotia, & BMO.

TD and CIBC are on same par, more branches compared to other banks, better customer services, better rates on credit products (saving is debatable), lower fee accounts after a year, and if you want a CC so you can start building your credit.

Nop you wouldn't be able to use it as local branch to make transfer, different jurisdictions diff rules

I am choosing Scotia because it has a lower minimum balance for checking accounts. Also no annual fee is charged if the balance is greater than minimum balance. Also one more question, how do we increase the credit limit on credit cards. On average what amount of credit limit is suggested for newcomers with a moderate spending habits.

Thanks in advance
