Where to start

I am new here and I just don't know where to start.. I am married to my wife who is in the Philippines. I want to bring her to live with me in Canada. She is a Montessori teacher. No other family or dependents..

My question is where to start! I've checked the IMM website and got nothing but confused (maybe I'm over thinking it).

What forms do I need?

Do I apply as sponsor and then does she apply to be a landed immigrant?

I got the form IMM1344 and started to fill it out but when I went back to complete it, it wouldn't let me enter anything!

I'd be very grateful for any tips or suggestions.

First step is deciding if you want to do the application with her in Canada (Inland) or in the Phillipines (Outland).

An Inland application allows her to also apply for an Open Work Permit (OWP) while her Permanent Residence (PR) application is being processed. It would likely take 3 months though and limit her working in teaching. She would probably need to take a year off teaching if all went well.

Coming to Canada is also different. You enter as a visitor with dual intent to remain permanently. It is up to the Border Officer on the day.

Outland is done with her fully outside of the country.

The application pack you complete includes your application to sponsor and her application for PR. As above there are guides and checklists to assist.

If she doesn't have a visa to visit Canada right now, it's likely that your only option is to apply with her outside of Canada.
