When do you get the PR card, as a new immigrant?

I am a bit confused, when do I get the first PR card (being a new immigrant)....according to the CIC website, it states that its part of the package as a new immigrant. But I get the feeling from the topics that I will apply for it when I do the "landing" in canada.....can anybody clear out this confusion for me......thnx

1. It is processed by the IO when you "land" and is mailed to address in Canada in about 35 working days.
