When Can I Start Working?

Hi Everyone,

I landed on May 25th and am still awaiting my PR Card (I read on here that it is taking 7.5 weeks!). After I receive my card, when am I able to start looking for work? Do I need to apply for an SIN or will that be provided with my PR card?

Any insight would be great, living on 1 income isn't as fun as it sounds in the brochures.

You need to go to Service Canada and apply for your SIN. You do not need your PR card to do that, just your landing papers. You can start looking for work right away. Your employer will need your SIN in order to pay you.
