What's the Quickest way for U.S citizen working in Canada to get PR?

Hi all,

Like the title implied, I'm U.S citizen currently working abroad in Canada, and since I'll be paying taxes here, and will possible for the foreseeable future, I am considering getting PR and/or citizenship, I'm currently on a 1 year contract with 2 year work permit, but it is expected to get extended, so I'm looking for the quickest way to get PR so I can work here without dealing with work visa anymore in the future and possible getting the proper benefits of any Canadian tax payer. Any suggestion are appreciated, Thanks in advanced.

There's too many variables for any of us to be able to answer your questions (e.g. which provinces you're working in, whether you have an approved LMIA, skill level of your job, your education, past work experiience, whether you studied in Canada, etc. etc. etc.).

You'll need to read through the detailed information for Canada's immigration programs to understand what the requirements are for each and if you meet the criteria. You can find this info here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/apply.asp

If your job is skilled then I would start by reading about Express Entry and calculating the number of points you have to determine what your chances are of being selected.

FYI - there's no special stream for Americans. So from that perspective you apply just like anyone else would.

I am here working under the north america free trades act(NAFTA), my position here is a Technical Director, a type of software engineer, I have 8 years of combined working experience. since Graduation at University with Bachelor of science degree in the U.S.
