More US illegal immigrants enter through Canada than Mexico

Canadian border is known to be the world’s longest undefended border compared to the United States- Mexico border where it secured and is constantly patrolled by the immigration personnel to prevent illegal migration and drug trafficking.

The increase in number of illegal immigrants in the US poses a great threat to the country since these illegal aliens are connected with issues such as smuggling, identity theft, human trafficking, marketing fraud, and terrorism.

Canadian and American government had been working together for a long time in facilitating travel across the US-Canada border and as well as ensuring security. Since September 2001 Canada had invested more than $10 billion in border security and emergency preparedness.

Ineffective security

Republican Senator Susan Collins and Senate Homeland Security chairman, Joseph Lieberman released a report stating that US- Canada border is having security gaps. They also specified that base on the special report from the US Government Accountability Office American and Canadian agencies does not have the capacity to detect illegal crossings of drugs, weapons and people along the border.

According to Lieberman the GAO report clearly shows that the defence of the northern border is nonetheless unacceptably ineffective. He said that “it’s weak, weaker than it should be and needs to be.”

Only 32 miles of the 4000 mile border has reached an acceptable level of security revealed by a study done by the Government Accountability Office. It is the only area that the federal government has control.

The remaining 3968 miles does not have the ability to detect illegal activity across the northern border.

Higher terrorist risk in Canada than Mexico

Americans had always thought that Mexico is dangerous however the report stated that the Homeland Security department had concluded that it is actually the southern border that has the higher terrorist activity risk because Islamist extremist groups are more rampant in Canada than in Mexico.

Improving the security

President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper had agreed that both countries will enhance their security measures. Both leaders said they would maintain their nation’s sovereignty by working out their differences to enhance security and accelerate the legitimate flow of people, goods and services between the two countries.

While the parliament hill was being attacked for negotiating the border security agreement in secret and would potentially put Canadian sovereignty at risk, the business groups however are welcoming the development. The Canadian Council of Chief Executives stated that if the prime minister is willing to put his personal stamp and would engage the president on the issue, then there will be a great news and there might be a possibility of getting real progress on the issue.

Because in the current situation, if you are a terrorist, there is a pretty good chance when you will choose one in the 32 mile border, 99% of your choice will not end up crossing the border’s secure areas.

Why new mortgage rules may affect home sales in Canada

Canada, 18th January: New home buying rules targeted to tighten mortgage lending are likely to affect the Canada real estate market and the first-time home buyers are going to be worst hit by these changes.

This has been stated by a local real estate board president.

The new mortgage rules will curb increasing Canadian household debt in addition to providing a stability in the Canadian housing market.

According to TD (Toronto-Dominion) Bank, the new mortgage rules will bring down the annual home sales by nearly 20,000.

The rules announced by Jim Flaherty, Canadian finance minister, might also pull sales by potential home buyers in a bid to beat the new rules.

According to a senior economist with TD, Paul Gauthier, existing sales of homes had been already predicted to go down by around 8 percent as compared to the year 2010 and the home prices are likely to slip by around 1 percent.

The changes by Mr. Flaherty announced in Ottawa state that Canada will stop supporting mortgages having amortization period more than 30 years. Mr. Flaherty announced withdrawing support for mortgages of 35 years period apart from cutting back federal support for HELOC(home equity lines of credit) where people borrow money against their homes to be used for reasons other than either buying or refinancing the home.

Mr. Flaherty, who was accompanied by the Minister of Natural Resources, Christian Paradis, Canada has a highly regulated housing sector which has been instrumental in extending strength to the nation in the times of economic crisis.

The changes in the Canada mortgage rules will give a stimulus to the hard-working Canadians to invest their savings in houses for safeguarding their future, Mr. Flaherty asserted.

And the reason for reduction in the maximum amortization period from 35 to 30 years is to help mortgagors to pay back their household debts at the earliest and bringing down the interest on their loan amount.

Meanwhile, amount of monthly payments for Canadian mortgagors will go up due to reduction in the amortization period of the mortgage.

And the maximum amount allowed to be borrowed by a Canadian for refinancing their mortgages will be equal to 85 percent of the home value so as to help Canadian families focus more towards savings while restricting their ability to borrow.

Also, Canadians wanting wanting a federal-insured mortgage for buying a house that will not be
used for living by them will be required to make a down-payment of 20 percent from the earlier down-payment of five percent.

Canadian Prime Minister’s Tax Cuts will boost Canada’s economy

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has pledged to lower the national sales tax and to give the money to provide a financial support to parents of Canadian children under 6 years old.

This action would help boost funding for provinces around the country. He also stated that he will make sure his government’s agenda to be clear and focused and to provide a real support to ordinary working families that will help strengthen the Canadian federation.

As tax revenues surge, Harper has benefited from it and it allowed him to spend for the provinces as well as cut taxes, giving Canada among the Group of Eight industrialized countries to have a balanced budget. Provinces, on the other hand, lead by their provincial leaders have urged the intrusion into their jurisdiction, as the country has a lot of tax revenues, the national government should provide them with the taxes collected.

The pressure faced from the opposition parties

However, Harpers actions would put him under pressure from the Liberal oppositions as the Liberal opposition and the New Democratic Party has suggested for Harper to reverse the tax cuts and extend government stimulus when the Parliament reconvenes.

The opposition states that corporate tax funds are unaffordable and will have an impact of slowing down job growth and will be crimping the economic recovery as it would bring a strong currency and a slowdown in spending by household.

Back charges of the tax cuts in the country

And not only did the stimulus fail to create jobs for tomorrow, it also failed to protect jobs of today, as stated by the opposition. They also suggested that investments should be made in training and education rather than cutting corporate tax.

They also stated that in the long term, cutting down of corporate taxes would undercut the federal government’s capacity to support social and economic programs. Not only that, it would also put the provinces and will put the whole country to have big deficits and the provinces, particularly Ottawa be deprived of a $13 billion annual revenue. Tax cuts would encourage corporate investments that will boost the economy and create jobs, but there is no evidence that says increased profits will produce the desired effects, a business class stated. The overall impact of the tax reductions in Canada has been to intensify the inequalities in wealth across the society.

Harper’s response to the opposition

Harper’s action however has proved popular with voters and it is said by the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses that it will provide a much needed boost in Canadian economy during the time when sales are going sluggishly in many sectors. The Prime Minister also stated that the cut to the country’s tax will most probably be the last and the Canadian government will be extremely cautious in the year to come and is not going to undertake any long run spending on tax reduction initiatives unless they are affordable on a long-term basis.

Canada allures Nigerian students

Canada, 7th February: Canada is holding an education fair in Lagos, Nigeria to invite Nigerians to study in Canadian colleges and universities.

Beginning on 3rd February, the Canadian Education Fair involved representatives of around 40 Canadian universities and colleges to inform Nigerians about different courses and programs of study in Canada and the eligibility criteria for getting admission.

The event attracted a large number of potential Canadian visa applicants wanting to study in Canada. Among those attending the three-day education fair at the Victoria Island in Lagos included students of secondary schools in Nigeria.

A similar fair was held by Canada between 31st January and 1st February in Abuja, revealed the Canadian Embassy’s deputy high commission.

The aim of both these education fairs in Nigeria was to give detailed information about getting Canada visas and Canada study permits for foreigners wanting to study there.

Canada impressed with great response to the Canada Education Fair—

‘Incredible’ is how Director of Admissions at Rosseau Lake College, Julie Cameron described her first experience in Nigeria. The response of Nigerians for pursuing studies in Canada was huge and amazing, stated Cameron. Majority of Nigerian students were interested in knowing the requirements for studying in Canada after they complete their senior secondary study in Nigeria, said Cameron.

Nigerians attracted by high education standards in Canada—

Nigerians attending the education fair held by Canada educational institutes said they were impressed by high standards of education in Canada offered at highly competitive fees. Canada offered affordable education as compared to other nations like the UK.

Great opportunities for Nigerians to study in Canada--- Canada offers vast opportunities for foreigners including Nigerians wanting to study in Canada, stated Christine Durham, a Balmoral Hall School representative. She said that the school offers a rigorous program for foreigners and it provides multicultural environment to the students. Already, there are several students from different nations including China, Mexico, Hong Kong and Taiwan, she asserted.

Lack of knowledge- a major obstacle for foreigners wanting to study in Canada— One of the major reasons for large number of foreigners facing rejection of their applications for Canada study permits is the lack of proper knowledge regarding various requirements for studying there.

So, main aim of this education fair is to provide proper guidance to those wanting to get enrolled in Canada schools or Canada colleges in the near future, said the Trade Commissioner Assistant at Canada Deputy High Commission, Modupe Olaniyonu.

Younger immigrants adapt to new cultures faster

Canada, 7th February: Younger immigrants seem to show greater adaptability to new culture than their older counterparts, reveals a latest study in Vancouver.

Immigrants moving to a new country in a young age are relatively quick to adjust to new environment, cultures and way of life, the study by Steven Heine, a cultural psychology professor at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver reveals.

The study maintains that those aged below 15 years find it relatively easier to adjust in the new country.

Published in a journal of Association for Psychological Science – Psychological Science, the study reveals that there are numerous aspects of development and learning which can be acquired only by a particular age.

The study was co-written by Benjamin Y. Cheung and Maciej Chudek, two students of Professor Steven Heine, who had immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong and Poland respectively.

The study involved 232 people who had immigrated to Vancouver from Hong Kong at different ages ranging from infancy to around 50 years.

And these survey respondents were asked questions regarding their identification with the culture in their country of origin as well as the country to which they had immigrated.

The findings show that immigrants who had come to Canada before attaining the age of 15 years identified more with the culture of their new nation than those who had come to Canada at a relatively older age.

So, the study summarized that the younger the immigrants are at the time of immigration, the faster is their identification with the Canadian culture with every successive year spent in Canada. Heine stated that our respective cultures are directly responsible behind shaping up of our thinking process.

Hence, acculturation is a difficult process and cannot be achieved easily by people, he asserted. Citing the example of one of his students and an immigrant to Canada, Heine states that younger children adapt quickly to new environment.

Cheung, who came to Canada at the age of 8, plays hockey like a typical Canadian while his 14-year-old cousin, who had moved to Canada does not do so.

The researchers plan to study whether the same theory holds good for immigrants from other cultures or not.

Immigrant parents to get health advice in native language

Canada, 7th February: Alberta Health Services is offering vital health information to immigrant parents in five languages.

This is a part of the effort by Alberta Health Services (AHS) to enable new Canadians provide with improved health care in Canada. The 23-part audio series is available in five language including French, Somali, Sudanese Arabic, Spanish and Mandarin.

This recent initiative by the AHS is going to prove immensely beneficial for new immigrants like Sally Lo whose mother tongue is Mandarin. Lo, who hails from China, states that she speaks Mandarin at her home as she is most comfortable in this language.

Lo said that the information given in the series deals with useful tips for infant care including nutrition, effects of a newborn baby on the relationship of a couple. She said that she has already listened 19 out of the total 23 topics. Moreover, the response in these podcasts is really quick, added Lo.

The new parenting program is very informative and helpful for new immigrants, said Lo. Lo, who had been living in Canada since the year 1992 said the health care system will be totally changed for new immigrants in Canada since the information related to health care will be available to immigrants thus overcoming cultural and cross generational barriers.

The new audio series will deal with health care issues ranging from pregnancy to the children aged up to 18 months. Funding of $51,500 for this special health care incentive by the AHS has been provided by Alberta Children and Youth Services.

According to official spokesperson of AHS, Susan Patenaude, the topics included in the health care audio series by the Network for Safe and Healthy Children will include family violence, sleeping problems of newborns etc.

The aim of this program is to make it accessible for new immigrant parents who are not literate in their native tongue of their new country, Patenaude added.

The program was initiated in January this year with help from public-health nurses and outreach workers working in immigrant communities. The podcasts are currently available in five languages but are waiting around 35 language requests.

Jobs Losses Mount In BC, Canada

The job growth standing took a major down -turn in British Columbia’s economy last month though a strong sign of recovery was clearly visible in the rest of the country.

Authentic statistical data puts the job loss figure at 4% as compared to December along with the simultaneous jumping of unemployment figure in the rest of the provinces.

This figure is much above Atlantic Provinces. The main contributing factors are manufacturing, construction, logging, forestry sectors for this dismal in the BC’s economy. In spite of this, the national unemployment rate increased to 7.8% in January from 7.6% in December as more people were on job hunt even in the festive months.

Economic Research Wing believes that BC Economy would grow

This job loss figure for British Columbia’s economy has put the BC’s Director of economic research; Mr. Ken Peacock expressing concern on the basis of calculations at that declining figure of the economy. Mr. Peacock vehemently expressed his strong belief that actual facts and figures prove otherwise and predicted that BC’s economy will positively see a turnaround in job growth in the next quarter.

An authentic report from Ottawa in Canada put the job loss of their economy in November to be the worst in the last quarter of century and expressed fear about more in the coming months. It definitely is a sign of recession which the Canadian economy now faces- as seen in depressed stock market, increase in commodity prices and fall in oil prices which pulled down currency conversion with respect to US dollar.

Job Losses even higher than levels of recession of 1980’s

Though sign of recovery is visible now to some extent but the job losses is much more than recession of 1980’s as unemployment rate has gone up to 6.3 %, a high of last two years. That further worse days are predicted in the unemployment front has been substantiated by the figure already touching to 7% as per CIBC World Markets economist Mr. Rangaswamy, according to whom, it may see further job loss in the coming few months.

Canada’s central bank, the Bank of Canada has decided to curtail bank rate to tackle the situation but it may take some time to show the desired result in the economy. Further economic stimulus packages are expected to be announced by the Finance Minister after consultations with different sectors of the economy that matters. Overall this recession has gripped all the countries of G-7 including Canada More such packages are to follow to tackle the present situation and to put the economy back on the rails to the path of recovery within a specific time period.

Demand for Forensic Pathologists booming in Canada

Recently a demand for Forensic Pathologist has been strongly felt in Canada.

The recent increase in demand has been felt mainly to cater to the growing needs of police, coroners, lawyers, crown attorneys and even in courts.

Demand for a qualified and experienced person with a qualified medical degree from a recognized university with a certification in either in general pathology or in anatomic pathology along with enrolment in a forensic pathology fellowship or a Board certification is an absolute must. Also the candidate must have the eligibility to work in Canada and also be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians.

The Chief Coroner investigates about 1600 death cases, besides completing 300 autopsies annually on an average. The selected candidates are offered a handsome salary to the tune of $ 0. 254 million to $0. 295 million per annum with attractive perks. For example, the selected candidate can be considered for a sign on bonus or grant, coupled with provision of relocation allowance.

Forensic Pathologist Profession getting more lucrative

It has been observed that demand for Forensic Pathologists is booming in Canada over the years, thereby people are attracted towards the profession either to get a job and the other promises that the job gives. A degree in Forensic Pathology or Forensic Science from Canada will open up new horizons with the job markets looking very promising. There is definitely a dearth of trained professionals in this specialized field in Canada. Not only that the degree in Forensic Science offered by various Canadian Universities opens up new career options in law, science, private investigation, consultants or even as private workers in laboratories.

The University of Toronto Mississauga offers a Forensic Science Bachelor Program that prepares the student for the demanding and challenging career. There are options of specializing in genetic information gathering along with understanding the complexities of scientific analyses. With the rising demand in the job market, the job prospects for the Forensic Pathologists of this subject look pretty promising.

Especially with the onset of DNA analyses and the continuous growth of the same, the market has grown tremendously. As the subject becomes highly specialized, the more job options are created thus promising better career prospect to the students. With an increasing work load, the demand for trained Forensic Pathologists is definitely higher. Also the increasing popularity of the forensic topics in the recent pop culture is another reason of the increasing job prospect in the market.

Canada celebrates multiculturalism while Europe denounces it

Canada is the first country in the world affirming multiculturalism as a core value to its society. As of today, it is a country which thrives on multiculturalism and diversity.

Canada adopted the policy in multiculturalism in 1971 and has enshrined it in its constitution in 1982 believing multiculturalism as a fundamental characteristic to Canadian society.
Canada values multiculturalism and shows it with steps done by its federal government which reached out to different ethnic groups which comprises of Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Croatian and Somali, allowing them to help with the Election Canada. The government of Canada recognizes the diversity of its people with regards to race, ethnic origin, color and religion and is committed to preserve and enhance its heritage for its entire people while working to achieve equality for all Canadians in the economic, social, cultural and political life.
British Prime Minister says multiculturalism is a failure to the country
On the other side of the world however, Britain has denounced multiculturalism and stating that it gives only failure to societies. The British Prime Minister states multiculturalism will only cause more radicals as well as more terrorism in a society in his speech during a security conference in Munich. In his speech, he attacked the 30 year multiculturalism in Britain stating that it is fostering extremist ideology and is directly contributing to Islamic terrorism in the country. Britain’s Prime Minister suggested that his country must adopt a policy of muscular liberalism in order to enforce values of equality, law and freedom across all sectors of society.
The British Prime Minister gave a warning to Muslim groups in his country that if they fail to endorse women’s rights or promote integration, they will lose all government support and he suggested that all immigrants to Britain must speak English and that he expects schools to teach the countries common culture. The suggestion of the British Prime Minister will be made into a new policy and will suggest the government’s new anti-terrorism strategy that will be published later this year.
Britain’s minorities are not happy with the remarks
The remarks made by the British Prime Minister has infuriated Muslim groups, accusing him of placing an unfair onus on minority communities to integrate, while he failed to emphasize how the wider community can help immigrants feel more welcome in Britain.
The British Prime Minister blamed a doctrine of state multiculturalism which encourages different culture live separate lives. He stated that this doctrine has failed to confront the horrors of forced marriage and has been the root cause of radicalization which can result to terrorism.
How Canada is dealing with multiculturalism compared to Europe
The issue on multiculturalism and whether it would work continues to be debated around the world. However, the Canadian government has not adopted the same tone in dealing with issues concerning large scale immigration, stating that Canada has been much more successful generally than the western EU countries. Immigration Minister Jason Kenney stated that Canada has done a better job than Europe in integrating immigrants and has also stated that “it is a work in progress”.

New Provincial Nominee Program for PEI

Canada, 10th February: A new immigrant Provincial Nominee Program will be announced by the PEI government soon.

This was announced by Allan Campbell, Innovation Minister.

The new program is going to be introduced for the potential immigrant investors in Prince Edward Island in a span of one month, Campbell informed after holding detailed discussion with Canada immigration department, CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada).

The PNP (Provincial Nominee Program) provides fast-track Canada visas to immigrants willing to make investments of $200,000 in PEI.

The aim of this immigration program is to allow increased number of immigrants into the province. The earlier immigrant investor program worked between 2001 and 2008 but ran into controversy after 2,000 immigrant investors were allowed in the year 2008.

The PNP had run into controversies following which a probe was conducted by the auditor general and a review by the RCMP.

The investigations revealed a serious flaw in the PNP by PEI. Colin Younker, the auditor general behind the investigations lashed senior government officials for failing to abide by the rules and for playing with the rules by approving businesses that were not qualified to be accepted under this program. And now, it’s ready to make a comeback.

Speaking about the PNP, Campbell said that it had proved beneficial for PEI and revealed that the CIC is happy with the new program.

Since immigration is the number one issue for Canada, hence, we must support approval of this new immigrant investor program, Campbell asserted. Canada is facing the issue of an aging population along with decreasing birth rates.

And in such a scenario, immigration in Canada and in PEI can play a vital role in sustaining the rate of population, said Campbell.

The new PNP will have a cap on the total nominations for the province annually. The number has been fixed at 400 initially and the annual target is likely to be increased after the annual cap is reached by the Canadian province, Campbell maintained.

And the immigrant investors will have the option of either making an investment of $1 million for a period of five years or to buy one-third of stake in a firm. The new rules of the PNP will allow fishermen and farmers to be covered under this program.

A ship from Thailand carrying Tamil refugees costs Canada Economy $ 25 Million

The arrival of hundreds of Tamil migrants from Thailand will cost Canada’s federal government $25 million, says the supplementary budget estimates by Ottawa.

The arrival of the MV Sun Sea which brought 492 ethnic Tamils from Sri Lanka gave the biggest impact on the budget of the Canada Border Services Agency as well as the Immigration and Refugee Board and RCMP costing them a total of $25 million for processing the Tamil refugees claimants that is under the signatory to the UN Convention on Refugees since the Tamils arrived in Canadian soil.
The story from the passengers of the MV Sun Sea
The Tamil aboard the ship from Thailand were fleeing from prosecution in Sri Lanka which was caused by the Tamil Tigers defeat after a 26-year civil war between them and the Sri Lankan government. However, it was contradicted by the recent UN report which stated that the Tamil is no longer considered fleeing from harm in Sri Lanka, because the Tamil Tigers’ defeat was way back in 2009.
Canada suspects on the abnormal arrival of the MV Sun Sea
The Canadian government suspected the arrival of the Tamil migrants was caused by human smugglers and there maybe some Tamil Tigers among the hundreds of refugees brought by the ship from Thailand.
The Canadian government is also concerned by the significant security issues produced by the abnormal arrival of the ship which carries immigrants which will now be the responsibility of Canada since it arrived in its soil.
Canada is a land of refuge, but the abnormal arrival of the ship produces much security concerns to its people and with this crisis happening, the Canadian government will have to deal with making a table of new legislation which aims to punish anyone who smuggles illegal migrants to Canada.
The Canadian government’s response to the crisis
The Canadian government responded to the crisis by proposing several changes in the immigration and refugee act, which will include penalties for refugees aboard the ship from Thailand who arrived in Canada since the spending estimates were very high and it still does not include costs of health care services provided by the federal government for the refugees as well as the legal services provided for them.
Changes on the immigration and refugee act caused tension
Opposition parties are claiming that changes on the act are unfair and unconditional and they oppose the changes of the bill particularly the sections that would allow those who arrive in Canada on such ships as the MV Sun Sea to be detained for up to one year while their refugee status as well as their identity cases are settled.
The government however claims that the changes made on the act will stop others from taking advantage on the Canadian immigration system.
Some of the passengers from the MV Sun Sea however have been released, while others still remain in custody.

Funding cuts in Canada immigration settlement programs criticized by Toronto MPs

Canada, 11th February: Recent announcements by the federal government regarding $40 million cuts in immigration settlement service agencies are likely to result in a big loss for the new immigrants in Canada, several opposition MPs have stated.

Cuts in federal funding leading to closure—

Such cuts have compelled closure of funding settlement organizations or in downsizing them, the MPs maintained. The immigration settlement organizations in Toronto are getting just 16 percent of the total government funding which is quite less keeping in view the fact that nearly 21 percent of the total immigrants coming to Canada choose to settle in Toronto, the MPs quipped.

As per the official data revealed by an analysis based on the figures of Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, the federal government has reduced the funding for Toronto’s immigration settlement agencies by around 45 percent for the year 2011, stated Gerard Kennedy, a Liberal MP.

Such steps are leading a big blow for several immigrant settlement centers in Toronto. The South Asian Women’s Centre happens to be one such agency which is likely to lose around 67 percent of its total funding by the federal government.

Executive director of this center, Kripa Sekhar, said that her agency will be losing $575,000.

Other Canadian provinces also affected by cuts—

Apart from Toronto, several other Canadian provinces including Saskatchewan, Alberta, B.C. and Nova Scotia are also getting affected by $40 million cuts in federal funding for settlement services. Total loss for Nova Scotia has been less than $1 million while B.C lost around $8 million. Saskatchewan and Alberta got more funding.

Psychological chaos for immigrants---

Speaking about the decision of the federal government which will affect around 78,000 new immigrants in Ontario, Kennedy said that newcomers are going to get off-track and face difficulties in successful integration in Canada.

They will face obstacles in getting language support, counseling services and getting suitable jobs in Canada, stated a worried Kennedy.

No wonder, newcomers in Canada are feeling shocked over such cuts in immigration settlement agencies by federal government. Stating the move as politically motivated, an Ethiopian-Canadian, Mesfin Yikuno, who had received the services in many immigrant settlement agencies of Toronto, said such cuts have created a crisis for new immigrants.

Canada immigration officials not to consider undocumented Canada work experience

Canada, 12th January: Officials of Canada immigration department have expressed their shock and anger over the recent news regarding acceptance of undocumented work experience for applications of Canada visas.

According to Alykhan Velshi, an official spokesperson for Canadian immigration minister Jason Kenney, the immigration department is outraged to know that undocumented work experience could be considered for applicants of Canadian permanent residency.

All the officials of CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) are being instructed to stop considering any such work experience for the Canada visa applications.

Recent news released last week had revealed that officials of CIC had given acceptance to the undocumented work experience for Canada visa applications through the provincial nominee programs.

A senior analyst of the CIC’s headquarters based in Ottawa, Jacqueline Desjardins had written in an email that the undocumented work experience can be counted for PNP (Provincial Nominee Program) but there must be a confirmation of the undocumented work experience.

However, Jason Kenney has overruled the above statement of Desjardins.

Desjardins had issued the above statement regarding Canada work experience in reply to an email containing a query sent to the Canada immigration department.

Velshi stated that Canada has its door wide open for those wanting to immigrate provided they are ready to abide by the laws adding that working illegally is a strict violation of the Canadian laws. He added that any person working without a legal Canada work permit is not permissible to Canada as per the IRPA ( Immigration and Refugee Protection Act).

The PNP is a part of the Canada immigration process helping the Canadian provinces select immigrants in accordance with the skills in high demand.

According to Olivia Chow, an NDP immigration critic, immigration rules are above all and hence must be respected and adhered to by one and all. She felt her astonishment at the acceptance of the undocumented work experience by Canada immigration officials.

Chow clearly stated that anyone including any Canadian employer found to be employing undocumented workers in Canada with an aim to exploit them must be punished.

She called on the Canadian government for finding a permanent solution to the undocumented immigrants working in Canada.

Presently, Canada has around 500,000 undocumented workers.
