Canada must focus on economic immigrants-Researchers

Canada, 31st August: Canada must give priority to economic immigrants, researchers have revealed in a latest study.

The study asserts Canada immigration department must focus on allowing skill-assessed economic immigrants whose levels of earnings are greater than other immigrants.

Allow economic immigrants-study--The study by Queen’s University researchers comes at a time when CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) is carrying out public consultations regarding the number and the mix of immigrants to be taken by Canada.

The economists have revealed in their paper titled ‘differences in earnings across different categories of immigrants’ in Canada has been published through Canada Labor Market and Skills Researcher Network.

Economic immigrants earn more than other immigrants--According to their paper, median earnings of economic immigrants allowed into Canada were higher by 56 percent than immigrants coming to Canada under other categories.

Foreigners coming as economic immigrants in Canada are selected on the basis of their education and experience.

Recession affected immigrants’ earning potential--The study also pointed out that economic crisis had a worst impact on the earning potential of immigrants coming to Canada under various immigration streams.

The researchers Charles Beach and Michael Abbott analyzed the figures of CIC for a period of ten years for knowing the annual earnings of immigrants coming to Canada in the year 1982, 1988 and 1994 respectively.

The researchers further compared the annual earnings of immigrants under different Canada immigration streams to ascertain the significance of skills of immigrants coming here.

They found that earning levels of family class immigrants and refugees was the lowest. It was also revealed that earning of refugees coming to Canada declined with each cohort.

Nonetheless, one thing is for sure that immigrants under various immigration streams were affected by economic crisis, irrespective of their skills or education. Economic downturn continued to affect the earnings of immigrants even after it had been over officially in Canada.

Restrict immigrants during recession—One of the researchers of the study, Beach says that study findings suggest on the need for cutting back the immigration levels during economic downturn.

Speaking of the recent recession, he said that immigration levels kept on increasing. Moreover, the number of immigrants coming to Canada as provincial nominees and temporary foreign workers also witnessed a rise.

Currently, the number of economic immigrants coming to Canada is said to be 30 percent while those coming under Family class immigrants is around 26 percent of the total immigration to Canada.

Who can qualify for undergraduate tuition grant—As per the rules, families of immigrants need to have a combined income not greater than $160,000 for becoming eligible for undergraduate tuition grant. For majority of students pursuing university and college studies, an annual savings will be tune of $1,600 and $730.

Companies or businesses in Canada will be provided business tax credit provided they hire any immigrant who have stayed in Canada for five years or less.

Canada allures immigrant investors

Canada, 9th September: Canada is a favored destination for foreign investors wanting to settle down for doing businesses here.

Canada’s Business Immigrant Scheme—Canada invites immigrant investors to come here through two Canada immigration streams, namely investor and entrepreneur.

Requirement for immigration to Canada under both these streams is having previously managed a business for a minimum period of two years along with minimum financial worth criteria. However, the only difference between these two Canada immigration streams is that immigrants wanting to come to Canada as entrepreneurs require lower net worth as compared to those coming as investors.

Federal Investor program—Canada’s federal investor scheme makes it a requirement for all immigrant investors coming to Canada to invest $800,000 with the Canadian government.

This amount invested by foreign investors will be returned back to them after the expiry of five years and no interest amount will be paid to them.

Under the Federal investor scheme, those getting Canada permanent residence are eligible to pursue various opportunities or interests after coming to Canada.

Meanwhile, it must be mentioned that due to exhaustion of the annual limit of 700 for Federal Investor Program, Canada government will not accept any applications until 1st July, 2012.

Canada Provincial Nominee Program—Canada also has PNPs (Provincial Nominee Programs) in some of its provinces. The PNP offers an easy and a quick path for foreign immigrants wanting to move to Canada for doing businesses.

The criterion of eligibility of each Canadian province is different in accordance with the specific requirements. British Columbia offers three PNP streams for business immigrants. These include Regional Business stream, Business Skills and Strategic Projects.

Requirement of these streams is engaging in management of any business in this province, providing business plan outline and generation of specified jobs for Canada permanent residents or Canada citizens.

Once, all requirements agreed are met by applicants, Canada government issues permanent work permit. Business skills stream and Regional Business scheme enables applicant to begin a business in BC (British Columbia).

These streams are a route to fast-track Canada immigration by asking the applicant to deposit $125,000 with Canada government for getting Canada permanent resident status immediately.

Requirement of investment and net worth under Regional Business stream is less, however, the business must be outside Abbotsford and Vancouver metropolitan region.

The Ottawa government is offering the new tip line to the public where they can inform about any citizenship fraudulent cases.

To check the growing number of fraudulent activities happening in the country, the federal government has taken a step keep a check on it by the help of general public.

As per the immigration authorities of the place they have more than 2000 immigrants belonging to different countries who have most probably got the Canadian citizenship through the fraudulent sources and now they are looking forward to find them and for those who will be found guilty will be punished with cancelling of their citizenship.

Action Taken by Government:

They have set up a new a tip line in which general people could come and report about anything that seems little doubtful to them. According to the government authorities this will help them control the growing citizenship frauds.

Here the citizens will be informing the government authorities about the suspected frauds this will help the government to increase their sources.

The Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney strongly supporting this new policy states that the Canadian citizenship should not be taken as a joke and it is not for sale and everyone could not get it easily. The minister is also encouraging the general public to serve their country by using the tip line to inform the authorities about the doubtful cases of the citizenship fraud. He is also confident that the department responsible for this work will properly consider and investigate the reported case properly and the suitable action will be definitely taken.

As per the minister the strict action will be taken against those who will be found guilty that is it might be as hard as cancelling of their citizenship rights and they might have to move back to their initial country. While supporting this strict action he stated that these actions will also be sending a very straight message to those who work for such fraudulent citizenships that now they would not be accepted at all and they won’t be spared easily and would be dealt very severely.

The cases related to the miss-representation, about the fraud, if there is any known hiding of information or material during the citizenship process or if somebody is pretending to be in the country and is falsely meeting the requirements for getting the country’s citizenship, any such above related doubts should be reported to the tip line as the numbers and timings given by the authorities.
