what is the diffrance between security background and criminal verification

Hi every one
Yesterday we got an e mail from our MP as we contact them and ask about my PR case so she reply that your husband secrity background verification in process and criminal verification not start so what does it mean like criminal verification and security background both are diffrent??
And how many months required for that?

If you are living out side then contact through phone first and then e mail your area MP about case,they will ask sponsor to sign consent form and send original via post and also email same scan copy.
