They say you can't be admitted if you have a serious financial problem, but do not explain what this is anywhere: does anyone have any insight? Thanks!

What about for permanent residency?
I'm sorry. Common law sponsorship . I also sent in an open work permit app. (this is a new pilot program you can send in with your common law sponsorship) Thank you.![]()
Thank you very much. He makes over 60,000 a year. I hope to teach in Canada with my Master's Degree and teaching experience in the USA. You are very knowledgeable. Thank you for your assistance.
Great idea! I sent in my packet yesterday. Oh I hope I am granted my Open Work Permit. It will be 12 months before I am granted PR through common law, but I will be PR when I have my Open Work Permit is my understanding. My visitor ext will expire November 8th so I will be sending in an ext request in Sept with proof I've applied and am waiting for Open WP and Common Law Sponsorship. I don't think there will be a problem with granting my visitor ext (but a little part of me still worries).
I also have grown children in the US that I listed (as requested) on the paperwork. They require they all have medical checks and police certs even if they are not accompanying me. I sent in a notarized letter saying I surrender any right to ever sponsor them in the future. I have no contact with my older 3 since my divorce a while back (they don't like it that I have moved out of the country) and my former husband has all major decision power with my younger two who are almost 18 (but not quite). He won't allow them to get a medical check and I agreed in the divorce settlement that when I visit I will never take them out of the state of GA. I sent in a copy of that too. (I think he was afraid I would take them to Canada and never bring them back so to make him feel more comfortable I agreed.)
I realize I have veered off the path of the topic...It helps to have someone read about personal situations. I can't imagine the work load immigration has. Thank you again.

As you know already, family sponsorship places the the burden of financial support on your sponsor alone. He is contractually bound to be financially responsible for all those he sponsors (Spouse/Common-Law partners, children, etc). IRCC provides Low-Income Cut Off (LICO) guideline as to the minimum income the sponsor needs to make. Below is the extract from the IRCC website.
1 person (the sponsor) $24,949
2 persons $31,061
3 persons $38,185
4 persons $46,362
5 persons $52,583
6 persons $59,304
7 persons $66,027
Your partner makes more than $60k/year and he will be able to financially sponsor up to 6 people.
Your Master's degree and US Teaching experiences will be considered an asset to Canada. scylla is right, you will need to see how you can get proper Canadian Teaching Certifications in whatever province you plan to reside.
Best of luck in your PR process and ask away of you have further questions!
