What if the applicant is unemployed, but is loaded with money?

Hypothetically speaking,

The visa officers want proof of funds to make sure they return to their country, right?

Let's say the applicant doesn't have a job, but their funds are plenty to support the trip and return tickets.

Is this sufficient?

VO just don't see proof of funds to make sure applicant return to their country, they see more than that. e.g. Ties to your country, job, assets etc. so loaded with money does not mean anything to VO alone, there are other factor s/he see.

Yup, that is correct. The officers are more concerned with the "ties" to their countries rather than the amount of money the applicants have.
