what happen if your passport is requested in sponsoring application

hello my name is tedy and my wife sponsoring me from Canada but I still have a valid ongoing visa in my passport for which the embassy in my country has requested for my passport and so confused if they want to cancel my valid visa so I cant fly to Canada again if maybe something has gone wrong in my application or do they still request for your passport weather you have a valid visa already or if they approving your application so just wants to know how does it work?Thanks

you need a PR visa in your passport. the one currently in your passport is presumably a temporary visa of some sort (work, study or visitor). you can not land as a pr with a temporary visa - it is not the same as a PR visa - it has a completely different purpose all together and they are not one in the same. you must send in your passport so IRCC can insert the PR counterfoil visa in your passport and you can land as a PR.

thanks so much but the fact is am in Canada now with my wife so if I sent to my country and they send it back to me that means am suppose to go back and re-enter back to Canada or they can send me a document to apply the P.R from inside Canada??how about that?or what if in the negative way something has gone wrong?can they cancel my visa?

your passport request letter would have included instructions for sending your passport to the ottawa visa office for passport processing if you were currently in canada so it's not necessary to send it back to your country's visa office. if you already sent it to your country's visa office anyway and your visa office will send you your passport back to you in Canada, then you do not have to leave canada just to fly back to land. You can either call immigration and schedule your landing at a local office (this can take weeks to secure) or you can drive to the US border without entering (called "flagpoling") and turn back to land as a PR at the canadian border.

there's no reason to assume there is anything wrong with your application. the fact they requested your passport suggests it is in the final stages of approval. if your application was going to be rejected, you would know. They can't reject an application without a formal interview or multiple requests going unanswered.

thanks for your concern and I had no instruction just an email that goes like this ..Please note that we would need you to send your passport to our office. It concerns your application for permanent residence in Canada and that's all nothing else..no name was even attached and so confused so I didn't send it and the next 20 days they wrote me and said they are thinking am not interested in immigrating to Canada so they closing my case and if I want cic to open they given me 30days to send my passport and a compliance of delaying for explanation.but this letter was official with my name and UCI number respectively.still not sure why they need the passport whiles am in Canada already and beside that all what I know was if am in Canada they can send me instructions to any local office in Canada to finalize the landing there..i need urgent response so I can proceed on what to do....

is your friend's spousal sponsorship being processed through the same visa office as you? if not, then don't worry. many visa offices process things differently. if they needed new pictures from you, that would have been requested along with your passport. not everyone gets a request for new pictures. it also sounds like your friend may be an "inland" applicant, not "outland", which would suggest a different process for visa issuance and landing. Don't compare your process to someone else's unless you can confirm they are going through the same process at the same visa office. Even then, not everyone's communication with IRCC is identical.

when you send your passport in for processing, the visa office will insert the PR visa counterfoil in your passport and will send it back along with your approval paper. i'm not sure when your current visa will be cancelled, though it doesn't matter because if you're already in canada then you can go land at a IRCC office or land border without issue once you receive your passport and approval paper back. if you are leaving canada and returning later, then your PR visa counterfoil will allow you to travel to canada to land as a pr and your current visa's expiration would be irrelevant.

you are worrying about things that are not worth worrying about. like i said, there are many factors that would suggest that either your friend did not go through outland through the same visa office as you, or they are not talking about their passport request. stop comparing notes and follow the directions provided to YOU about YOUR application. stop worrying about it being "different" than your friend's experience. you have different files and i suspect different visa offices (and possibly not even the same stream of sponsorship). it would make sense that everything is not done exactly the same way.

thanks so much and honestly we all processing same visa office but I just thought different officers might have our files differentfly so I guess you 100 percent right..so now they telling me to send a compliance why I haven't responded and last 30days to provide my passport too..so what letter can I write in addition to my passport so they can make consideration to re open my file..or I can just send the passport only and whiles in the letter they stated 30days its doesn't matter about any compliance and they still going to process it?thanks

wants to find out about this tricky question too because I know when sponsoring application and its on final processing and the request for only passport and whats the reason because if they going to approve it and why then they inform you about the payment of the p.r fees and son on?
