Hey guys,

I am about to apply for my Family class PR. My partner owns a business in Canada and I have been helping her with emailing prospects from my email. I don't get paid or anything... Just send some emails to help her.

Would this cause an issue with my application? Do they check my email? Or are they just primarily concerned about the legitimacy of our relationship?

If you are honestly not getting paid, then you shouldn't worry about them checking your emails. But they don't really, unless you get an interview.

They are primarily concerned about two things: the relationship and your admissibility (medical, background, security, misrepresentations, etc).

Ok great. I wasn't sure if I should worry so this makes me more comfortable. Thank you for the info!

Don't worry about it - I own a business in Canada as well and my husband helped me by doing the same thing - looking for prospects using his email. I didn't pay him either and it never came up in the process or in an interview. And he did have an interview - they are looking to make sure that your relationship is genuine - that is the key factor. Not if you are helping your wife find a few leads for her work. Actually that to me is proactive because you are trying to contribute to the Canadian economy by helping a Canadian business be successful, without getting paid.

So you will be employed when you land? Sounds like a win.
