Hello Everyone, I have a question. My sister has gotten for an admission at Algoquin college for 1 year certificate program. she coming from Ghana. My husband and I live in Canada and we have decided to fund her education.
My husband owns a restaurant which he franchised 5 months ago, and also works as a chef at a hotel I work as a home childcare provider.

I was reading the requiments for a study permit and was looking at the financials. I read a student must have a minimum of $10000 or $833 per month in their account.. now my question is even as we are sponsoring my sisters tuition and living expenses does she need to have that amount of money in her account?

2. what does it mean to have $833 per month. can she have only $833 in her account to apply for the visa?
3. I tried to open an account for her in Canada but the bank said they wont as she is not here.
3. do we need to prove our financials apart from the letter and payment of fees?
she has some money of her own but not $10000 maybe $3000

Well the thing is if you are sponsoring her then she should attach a bank statement from your account which shows u have enough funds to support her. Also they ask this proof so that they can be assured that the student will not be involved in any illegal activity to pay the fees. GIC is the option to show 10000 dollars. In GIC the nova scotia bank will open account on her name and u have to deposit 10k dollars in that. Once she is in canada she will get 2000 dollars every 2 months for the next 10 months.

Either the applicant or sponsor must have sufficient funds to cover first year tuition + $10K in living expenses + $2K-3K in travel expenses.

1. She don't need an account. You can sponsor her financially.
"Reference letter from the individual(s) providing you financial assistance for your program. The letter must indicate their occupation and relationship to you, the number of dependents they have and their full contact details. You should also provide a letter from the employer of the individual(s) providing you financial assistance for your program, clearly indicating employer contact details and full street address of business location."

2. You need a minimum CAD 10,000 + first year of tuition fee for application eligibility.
3. Yes. You will pay only first year/semester of tuition fees, & other than that you need a proof of CAD 10,000 (living expenses for 1 year).

i think she needs to open an account in her own name in any authorized bank in Ghana and you can transfer 10,000 CAD in that account which will open a GIC account in her name from where she can withdraw money per month or can withdraw all the amount at once when she's done with her course,
it will be her fixed deposit and can withdraw monthly amount of around 800 dollars

Forgive me if am wrong but no one has raised the issue of home ties. The consulate officer will like to be assured that the student will return to her home country after studies and doesn't plan to stay.
Right now all her sponsorship is coming from Canada which raises questions of her willingness to return to Ghana after her program.

Any one want to contribute to this? Sorry its a bit off topic

Onua ete sen? hope you good, the home ties is really important here, dont forget these people always see students from Africa to be Opportinist.
Is the person married, what of kids or any properties?
Take into consideration these factors or else, proving thousands of dollars will not convince the VO. Remember they see us as OPPORTUNIST.

The applicant will need money on her account if she was to pay for her expenses...

If not that is up to the applicant.. Then the sponsors need to prove they have got enough money for paying her tuition plus living expenses... That means she needs proof of financial support for tuition (first year at least) +10000 CAD for first year living expenses...

Remember that is the minimum required... If you don't show that she will no get her visa. And since you are going to sponsor her you need to provide her with your bank statements and your husband's is that is the case, proof of property, and letters (notarized) where you commit to sponsor and pay for her expenses and that the fund's your are showing will be destined to pay for her living expenses and tuition.

Now, cic needs her to prove strong home ties, since you are living in Canada they might think she would try to stay in canada illegally after completing her studies.. So trying to show strong home ties should be a priority as well.

Hi guys, need to know do I need to pay the 1st semester tution fees first or deposit CAD 10000 in canadian bank to get approval for Qubec CSQ and for the student visa approval?
