Hi all,

Status- Permanent resident from non visa exempt country
Situation - Need to travel out of the country

I recently landed and thought that a PR visa counterfoil would be stuck on to my passport but that didn't happen. I know this counterfoil is no longer required for PR's from visa exempt countries. I couldn't find any useful links on the cic website on how to proceed with this. I would appreciate any links or info on this. Thanks

Inland applicants do not receive a visa counterfoil, because they do not apply for a PR visa, they apply for PR status. Yes, there is a difference.

If you must travel out of Canada before you receive your PR card, you should apply to the Canadian consulate located in that country for a returning PR travel permit.

Thanks Charlie.
I have a PR card. So you're basically saying that I do not need a PR visa counterfoil on my passport on order to travel, even though I'm from a non-visa exempt country? All I need to have is my PR card?

That is correct. The PR visa is a single-use visa, anyways. It is immediately cancelled once the new PR arrives at the POE. What gets you back into Canada when you travel outside is your PR card, or a returning resident travel permit (if you don't have the card).
