WES received the document but they initiated a second verification

Dear All,

Could you please help me on the below:-

1. I have B.Tech from Kerala University, India (still locked-down).
2. MBA from Alagappa University, India.

The MBA transcripts reached WES, but they initiated a second verification by sending the photo copies of the documents to the university directly. See their reference mail.

This is to advise you that WES has sent photocopies of your documents for verification both electronically and by standard postal mail to Alagappa University. Your WES file is on hold until we receive a written response from this institution.

So from the above I understand that my university has to redo the process again and send back to WES electronically or by POST?
Also I received a mail from WES stating that I can upload my degree certificates directly to the profile. Is that really mandatory?.

No, WES wants to verify that the documents are genuine and have sent photocopies to your university so that they can compare the two and inform WES (in writing) whether they are genuine or altered.
