Hello, so this October, it will have been one year I have lived with my girlfriend in Canada! I need advice as to what to do from here since I am looking to go into the Common law sponsorship route. Here is my deal, I was 18 when I came up here last October, so I was not able to sign on to my girlfriends lease (this is in BC) until I was 19 years old which was in May. So, basically even though my girlfriend was on a lease (her rent was payed for from university sponsorships) we lived with her mother until that May. We do have proof such as a little agreement between us and her mother that I am staying there, and that she took care of me. Once I turned of age, I signed on to the lease with my partner, and lived there with her since it is a bit closer to her school by about 30 minutes. I also was able to sign onto a joint account once I turned 19 as well. My question being this: Would it be best to go with the agreement paper me and her mother had, and pictures together from when we lived there, or should I extend another 6 months until we have been on a OFFICIAL lease for a year? Also to add-I have visited her before, and we are the same age and have pics of us throughout the year, we have been together 3 years (one and a half of which were online as I am from the states) thanks!

It might be easier to prove if you wait another 6 months. Otherwise, it would just be your partner's mother vouching that you lived together before you signed the lease and pictures you have had and also submitting letters sent to the same address as your girlfriend's house, etc. It really depends on who is reviewing your case. Definitely, having your name on the lease is stronger evidence for common-law cases. Of course you will have to submit the pictures and communications from the time you were together as per the application's instructions to prove the genuineness of your relationship.

No I am not on any bills from the first six months :(, so what do you guys think would be best? Extend again and apply in 6 momths? Hopefully they are understanding. I let them know my situation and asked for a year extension when i first needed one, but they granted me with half. I have no idea why

Have you gone though the application checklist to see if you have all the other requested items also?

If you are going to wait the 6 months anyway it would be a good idea to look at that checklist now and make sure you can check off the other requested things.. If you can't you can put a plan in place to make sure you definitely have it all and be ready in 6 months.

No, I havent gone through the checklist yet since the plan initially was to wait the extra 6 months. I guess I should wait the extra six months, and make sure I have everything in order and start going through that checklist soon, and do it at a steady pace. Is there any specific part I should look at ahead of time that might catch me off guard? All I have been doing since May is collection proof such as: Lease agreement, Joint bank account, Internet bills, paying rent through our bank account, official mail, (not electric because her mother pays that for us) pictures etc... Is there something that may throw me offguard that I should look into now? thanks!

Nope sounds like you are on the right track.

The checklist gives you specifics like "send maximum 20 photos" "pick two pieces of evidence from the following sets to send".

The checklist also tells you which forms you have to submit but if you are going to wait 6 months there really is no point in doing the forms now as they are likely to be updated between now and 6 months from now. And saying that the checklist itself may change/be updated but the general requirements/evidence will stay the same.

You will more than likely be back here as this forum is an invaluable source of help and guidance while completing the application! :D

Oh also one more question. Should I tell them when I extend, that I am in a online college class from the states? I know this is OK since it is a online school from the United States.

I think in the extension forms it may ask your current and past employment/education details (don't quote me on that!) so if they do mention it there.

The extension application is easy. Just follow what it asks and if you need to explain anything (like if you did want to mention/explain the course situation) there is space to upload an "additional info" type word document.
