Hi,
I just got my wedding certificate and theres a little difference in my name my name in my passport for ex is: homer j simpson. But in my birth certificate there an other first name

On my wedding certificate is the following: Simpson, homer other first name J.

So the J that is part of my last name they put it at the end, when i think it should have been in front like J SImpson...

Thanks!

I am not sure how to proceed.. I'm still waiting for my certificate.
But if no one has any answers, you can email CIC at question@cic.gc.ca
They usually take 1 business day to answer you back
Would you mind tell me how long did it take for you to get yours?

thanks

If J is your middle name, then the way they use it in Colombia is accurate to your real name.

For example, in Colombia let's say somebody is called Maria Alejandra Vega.

Maria is the first name, Alejandra is middle name, Vega is last name.

On a list sorted by last names this person would be: Vega, Maria Alejandra (or Vega, Maria A.)

I don't know if this helps, or maybe I didn't understand the problem?

Ooohh okay, got it. I can see why it would seem like it's part of your middle name instead of your last name.

You should try to get a new certificate? If it only takes one day...

I have a similar problem in Canada ALL THE TIME because I don't have a middle name, and in my passport they use my dad's last name and my mom's last name right after. So people think my last name is my middle name and my mom's last name is my last name.

If you can't get a new certificate, maybe you can send an explanation letter of the mistake, I think they would be used to those kind of mistakes happening all the time. But just to be sure, try to fix the certificate first.

My husband and I have similar issues. His last name is fathers name, then mother's maiden name.

Example: smith Lee-Jones
However he uses Smith as a casual everyday introduction.

This is what is printed on our Canadian Marriage certificate

When I went to get my documents changed to my new married name I could not use just Smith. I had to use the full name!

So frustrating since I work at a school and It would sound like a sentence! Lol
Anyway my documents like (drivers and passport) will have the full last name but we are only introducing ourselves as the first one.

Confusing? Ok yes. hahah
