Hi...

I currently live in the United States (Arizona) I'm a US citizen and would like to know how difficult it would be to work in Alberta? I have been a Land Surveyor for 10 years. I'm 32. Married with two children but my wife and children would not be coming with me. The economy here is horrible for Surveying. Construction or otherwise. But from what I understand there is quite a bit of demand for Surveying Professionals in Alberta. My Wife is an aerospace engineer and is keeping her career here in the states. I mostly would like to move in order to gain some valuable experience in my field. Could someone please give me some guidance. On my eligibility assessment I scored a 72.

Thank you,

Quentin

If you have a job offer, you can apply for your immigration as a skilled worker since you have over 67 points but it is not necessary to do that if you just want to work. You can also get a job offer and if the employer can get a labour market opinion for you, you can apply for a work permit. To get a job offer, of course you will have to apply for some jobs. You can read more about getting a labour market opinion here: http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/workplaceskills/foreign_workers/supperimm.shtml

Looking at http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/res_eng.aspx?ProvId=99&Keyword=surveyor&Student=No there don't seem to be too many offers for land surveyors but you can also check other job search engines like:

is it true that the issuance of LMO will be lessen to foreign workers, since canada wants their citizen to get the job.?

There were already fewer LMO's issued this year than the last. Somebody told me they have been cut down by 75%. The reason is that the employer can not get a positive LMO to hire a foreigner unless he has advertised the job for a certain amount of time and has not had any qualified applicants who are Canadian or PR's.

When an employer advertises a job to meet the conditions for an LMO, when there are a lot of Canadians and PR's who have lost their jobs, they will apply and if they do and they are qualified, the employer will not be able to get an LMO for a foreign worker.
