Waiting for Rehab certificate, Do I need another FBI check for Perm Res. app?

Greetings all,

I am currently waiting on my Rehabilitation application to come through. I am also preparing my Permanent Residence (spousal sponsorship) application. Do I need another copy of the police certificate, or will the Rehabilitation certificate be enough?

On the subject, is it possible to apply for permanent residence while I am waiting on my Rehab certificate?

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Mine has been in process for 2 months.

The general consensus is that it's best, if you are eligible to be deemed rehabilitated, to do that before you apply for permanent residence - so you have the certificate to submit with the PR ap. That way the issue is resolved and the officer assessing you for PR does not have to go through the whole exercise of making a determination about whether or not your offence makes you inadmissible to Canada. The assessment will have already been done by the officer assessing the rehabilitation status.

Yes, you will still have to submit a valid, current criminal clearance - of course they will want to make sure that you have not committed any offences since the one that you received rehab status for. I am now in the midst of reprocessing for my application that was successfully appealed and, even though I have been in Canada since the last time I got a criminal clearance from my home country, I was required to get another one. Don't know how I could have committed a crime there while I was here, but that logic does not seem to matter.

How come you were denied cos your son was found inadmissable ? thats ludicrous.

Do you think it is possible to enter Canada on a TRP (for spousal class applicants) while filing for Permanent Residence after I have gotten my Rehabilitation?

I am about to send my paperwork to apply for Criminal Rehabilitation since I had a DUI 11 years ago. Do you mind if I ask you how long did it take for you to get yours and to where should I send all the paperwork? Oh ,one last question, how long did it take you to get your FBI background check??
