Visitor Visa Extension

Hi all,

I have tried calling the CIC throughout the day for the past few days and no luck.. so I'm hoping someone can shed some light on my query, thanks in advance!

My boyfriend is American and has an application received by the CIC for citizenship (proof). His visitor status will end on May 30, 2016 (6 months after entry into Canada). Our question is, does he need to apply for extension of his visitor status, even though there is an application pending with the CIC (is this considered implied status)? Thanks so much for any information!

The application you've submitted doesn't give him implied status.

A submitted temporary status application submitted while in status in Canada.

The application for citizenship is not a "temporary status application" therefore it does not grant implied status.

Thanks for the information... so what happens if his visitor status passes (at the end of the month) without an extension (or application for extension) in place? Like, would be be deported, or his citizenship proof application denied? Is it too big of a risk? The reason I ask is because talking to others who have recently gone through the same application process, it has been under 3 months before a result has been given.. so it seems like a waste to apply for a visitor visa if it will only be used for a month or so?
