Visitor Visa Application no progress 6+months

Hello,

I applied visitor visa for Canada in July 2018. Since that date there is no update in my application. On contacting CIC, I always get a generic reply that it is under process.

Did anyone got the same situation? Is there any way I can contact CIC to get the actual issue causing this delay?

Did you submit an online or a paper application?

If you submitted a paper application. do try to link it to your online account for a better idea about the processing status? Maybe your application is in the background checks stage

What is the status for background checks?

Did you email your local visa office? Or you sent a IRCC web form?

Not sure about background checks as I do not see any updates in application.

I submitted IRCC web form and directed it to New York visa office as I filed from USA.

The status for background checks would either be 'in progress' or 'not applicable'. If IRCC is doing background checks then there's nothing you can do but to wait until these checks are completed.

Are you visiting the US or another non-immigrant category? It is possible the NY visa office has sought information from your home country that might delay a decision.

I just checked my application. Background Check is mentioned as NOT APPLICABLE.

Application step Current status
Review of eligibility We are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirements.
Review of medical results You do not need a medical exam. We will send you a message if this changes.
Review of additional documents We do not need additional documents. Help - Review of additional documents
Interview You do not need an interview. We will send you a message if this changes.
Biometrics We do not need your fingerprints. We will send you a message if this changes.
Background check Not applicable.
Final decision Your application is in progress. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made.
