Hello,
I am requesting help for my brother in law who entered Canada on “single entry 6 months visitor visa until December 2023” for purpose of attending sister’s wedding, however he got issued visitor record at the airport for 8 days only (until the return ticket date, which we thought will extend as needed)
To clarify on his visitor visa application case, he was denied visa and we submitted request for reconsideration and officer approved his case and his passport was stamped single entry visa for 6 months.
His details: 23 years old, student in home country, India and parents were denied visa.
officer did ask why your parents are not coming, he told them that they applied but got denied.

now, We want him to spend some more time with us to explore Canada and if possible were thinking to get him to stay and work here. We are planning to go ahead with visitor record extension application and just worried what will happen and if anyone else encountered same? Any advice would help

It is tricky if he will get approved with all this history. This may look like a backdoor to immigration
You will know the outcome only when you apply and see
Good Luck

Yes, thank you for your reply. We are worried that hopefully It won’t affect his case negatively for future opportunities and We are considering to apply for visitor record extension. Even CBSA officers at the airport were shocked as he described, seeing a 23 years old with student status in home country getting approved for visitor visa and especially no parent accompanying him. He said parents were denied visa and then they attached this permit - visitor record to leave as per return ticket. Poor guy only had six months visa in first place and they made his visit even shorter

Honest feedback. This is a really bad plan. Let's say he is able to extend his stay, manages to get a job offer and approved LMIA - his chances of getting the actual work permit approved will be quite low give the length of his stay in Canada and his immigration history here.

If the priority is to be able to eventually work in Canada, then do not extend the visitor record. Have him return home before his allowed visit ends and then apply for a work permit from his home country after he has secure a job offer and approved LMIA.

If the priority is to be able to visit longer now and he's fine with the work permit likely not being possible, then you can apply to extend his stay.

His future work permit will definitely be negatively impacted if you go ahead with the extension. It's time to pick which is the priority out of the two.

I agree 100% with scylla

Definitely run the risk of jeopardizing future chances

And this is exactly why he was given a single entry 6 month TRV.....to prove his actual intent. Seems IRCC had the refusal right the first time.

Embassies always issue 6month multiple entry visas. But Border services might limit your stay if they are not sure about you intent in Canada. I suggest your brother to leave canada before the end. Then he can plan accordingly.
