Visitor issue

Hi,
On July 07 2016, I went to visit Niagara Falls from United States and I tried to cross the bridge that join Canada and US. I’m from Dominican Republic and by that time, I had a US Student Visa. When I was in the Canadian side of the bridge, I went through immigration and they took me to their office and asked for my documents. After some time, they explained me that I couldn’t go to Canada because I didn’t have permission and I thought I could, but I was wrong. They gave a paper that said “Allow to leave Canada” with the details of the incident. My question is, how does that affect me for the future? Will I be able to apply for a Canadian visa without difficulty? Is there any way for me to check my status or record?

You will just need to declare on any future visa application that you were refused entry and the reasons which sound as though you simply did not have a visit visa as required for citizens of Dominican Republic to visit Canada.

This should not have effect on any future visa application as long as you declare it given you were simply given the opportunity to voluntarily turn around and return to the US due to lack of documentation.
