Hello Folks!
I am a Canadian PR holder, and my wife is a British national who's in Canada at the moment living with me as a visitor. She entered Canada 4 months ago on eTA, and has travelled to the US and then back to Canada with me a couple of times since.
We are thinking of permanently moving to England at the end of 2019 or beginning of 2020. As such, we don't need for her to obtain the Canadian PR. Because for that, first we'd need to get all the paperwork together for PR application AND waste so much money in PR application fees.
Is there any an option to either extend her stay as a visitor beyond first 6 months or apply for Open Work Permit, without simultaneously applying for PR?
I have been browsing CIC's website for hours and can't seem to find a clear answer. Any suggestions?

She can apply to extend her status as a visitor.

If she qualifies for IEC, she could try, though it is extremely competitive and there is little chance at this point. Otherwise, there is no OWP option.

Thanks for answering! Quick question - is there a specific criteria for applying for visitor extension, Or is it entirely up to the officer's discretion?

Always up to the officer. She can say that she is visiting her spouse. Provided she shows sufficient proof of financial support, it should be fine.

One final question: When she first entered Canada via an international flight 4 months ago, she went through a kiosk and didn't get a stamp in her passport. Subsequently, when she returned from the US via land border with me, and via international flight from Dominican Republic, each time her passport was stamped but no specific date by which she has to leave Canada. So my question is:
Should we count her 6 months from her first entry at the airport when her passport wasn't stamped, OR
from the most recent entry into Canada when her passport was stamped?

Since the visitor extension application needs to be at least 30 days prior to the expiry of status, this info is important to know.

Most recent entry.
