Hello,
I have searched but have not found the relevant information. I have secured an invitation as a visiting scholar at a Canadian university for 1 year. I cannot find which visa to apply for as I will not be receiving any pay (though I think there are some benefits from the university). I would if anyone could point me where to look for this information. Also, I've heard horror stories about processing times, does anyone have recent experience with the processing time?

Much appreciated!

Which university? They should be able to help you with this.

Are you receiving no compensation at all (not even accommodations)? Are you self-funding your stay?

What will you be doing exactly? Research?

Processing times vary from country to country and depending on the type of visa you need. You can find estimated processing time here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/check-processing-times.html

Thank you for getting back to me. The university has thus far offered no support. I will not receive any compensation, including accommodation. I will still be paid from my institution outside of Canada. I am only doing research. I hope that helps.

Have you looked at other university / school websites? Quick google search seems to indicate that many have info posted on their websites for the process that needs to be followed.

I'll have a look, thanks. I was really hoping to get someone with recent experience as well.
This is a very rare topic on this forum. I would use the search feature to see what you can find. Info may not be recent but it may help.

Are you a student or are you a professor? The fact that you aren’t receiving any compensation from a Canadian employer complicates the scenario.

It doesn't actually. It is quite normal for funding to come from the home country university in this case. You'll see that scenario referenced on several of the links above.

Hi, which visa did you finally apply for?
