I, my wife and daughter are citizens resident in Canada and our son is still resident in South Africa. We have not seen one-another for more than five years and wish for him to visit us in Canada while he is between jobs. At this time he relies on us for support and we will support him during his the time of visit to Canada.

We are collecting the documentation and realised that he will not be able to process such a large volume of scans at his end without incurring considerable expense. So we would be representing him in his application and have some questions;

1) Can he nominate us a representatives in his dealings with CIC for this application?
2) On my CIC account, can I file HIS application?
3) The application is supposed to be filed OUTSIDE of Canada - but can a representative INSIDE Canada still file it legally - as long as the applicant is outside Canada?

I really dont want to fall foul of any procedural legalities before we begin.

Thanks for any assistance in this regard - we really need to spend some time together as a family again.

Hi All

Is anybody able to offer some advice on this? Any assistance is appreciated

You can not send him the money for scanning? Seems strange that 1) there is so much scanning to be done and 2) that he can not apply himself.
There are a lot of other questions you need to deal with, like proving why he will go back to South Africa.

Hi,

Your son must apply for a TRV from South Africa..... you can use the 'Come to Canada' tool: http://www.cic.gc.ca/ctc-vac/getting-started.asp

As he is not in Canada, when you answer 'What is the country/territory of your passport?' and 'What is your current country/territory of residence?', it will direct you to complete form IMM5257 (for applications outside Canada).

It would be best if he puts off his visit until he gets another job.... as being *between jobs* and *relying on you for support* could indicate weak financial/lack of employment ties.... also family in Canada versus that in country of residence could then be a concern..... thus lowering his chances of getting a TRV.... unless he is able to demonstrate other *strong ties* to his country of residence

Cheers :)
