It depends on where you are from and where you are going. Find more info here:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/after-transportation-driving.asp

I know dealing with the Ministry of Transportation in Ontario isn't too bad. A lot of offices, wait times not too bad (unless you are downtown Toronto), and when you get a Canadian licence they give you a paper one right away that you can use with valid photo ID until you get a card in the mail.

Hope this helps. :)

Thank you very much, it is really useful! Wish you speed process! :)

Do any of you guys know if an international drivers licence is needed when you first come to Canada ti be able to drive or u can use the one from bak home for firstfew months? Thanks

This is the link for Ontario...in order to skip the graduated licensing (G2), they will accept your previous driving experience if you provide certain documents.

http://www.drivetest.ca/en/licencing/pages/out-of-country-drivers.aspx

By the way, I heard they are very strict with these.
My husband got everything he could think of that would help, international drivers license, a letter from SUP stating how long he has a license, no driving offences, and a letter from insurance stating how long he was insured and had no claims..etc... some insurance companies will accept it here as a proof of a driving record. As you guys know the insurace in Canada is very expensive. Not sure if we will be able to use any of this, but better safe than sorry. I rather have everything just in case. :)

I looked up from info for Ontario since that is where we will be living and found out that you can use the following as ID:

Permanent Resident (PR) Card
Record of Landing (IMM 1000)
Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292) accompanied by a valid passport from country of origin

When you move to Ontario, you can use a valid licence from another province, state or country for 60 days. After 60 days, you need to switch to an Ontario driver's licence.

You can exchange an out-of-province licence for an Ontario licence, if you are re-locating from: Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Isle of Man, Japan, Northern Ireland, Korea, Switzerland

More info:

Thank you for the information very helpfulll :))

You can drive at least 2-6 months with your European driver's licence. It depends on the province. I exchanged mine in Alberta after 6. I had to say goodbye my German and my international one and they gave me the Canadian instead. No course, no training, just a picture taken and $25 paid

Roasting a lamb is an Easter Sunday tradition for us Greeks.. Poor little lambs. Funny thing is last week coming back from Sofia Bulgaria I saw two huge Tractor trailers full with little lambs ready to cross over for slaughter! I wish we never had this tradition to be honest but in the other hand traditions are traditions!
But we can always try the famous cake Little_apple makes. And perhaps I can bring a nice bottle of Lesbos Ouzo and sip it with some greek seafood appetizers (meze) and enjoy what ever summer Calgary can offer us.. bbbrrrrrr
I know that we are going to be for a big shock when we Greeks are used to long hot summers! ahahahhhaaaa ...Lets see!

Thanks for your friendship Milan. I pray for you and for everyone in our forum to finish with Vienna and get on with their lives

Tom
