By "third parties" do you mean the RCMP / Canadian government? have you lived in any other countries besides Holland or Canada?

I'm in a similar situation, only have lived in my country and then in Canada last two years on a work permit. My spouse and I are going back to Europe for the summer in mid-may and we are hoping that we get COPR before we leave Vancouver, so we can just drive down to the border and land before we leave for the summer. That would allow us to get the three-month wait for medical coverage started while we are away so we wouldn't need to pay private insurance since we would be in Slovakia anyway, and just generally make life easier and less stressful getting it all finished before we leave.

we have been "in process" since early February and just yesterday sent them the first email asking for an update since receiving AOR more than 3 months ago. Hope to hear from them.

I think i am at the stage where the Can Government runs your background check, so not just the criminal investigation based on your police certificates. I have only lived in Holland and Canada, but i have traveled a lot. Maybe that is what slows it down. (But come on, how many people backpack through Asia nowadays?)

According to my MP they are still waiting for my security clearance from the "Third Parties" and they have no timeframe

It is true that they have no idea, they issue background check requests to CBSA, CSIS and RCMP I believe and wait for their responses so it's out of their hands during that period. I am not sure if all three get involved in all cases, probably not if you never lived in Canada.
I know that you can contact all three yourself but it takes forever for them to reply. I contacted CSIS and they replied after 4-5 weeks I think.
I don't know how much travelling affects it, I think it's mostly the addresses that you put down on the form for the past 10 years and maybe how often you come and go to Canada.
My husband's background checks took about the same as Europe's - 4 months and he comes from a visa exempt country (germany), has no criminal/military record but he did live here before.

Hi guys

Sorry for interrupting this conversation but I like to ask: You are talking about background checks and their delays. When an applicant lives all his life in one country, has never been to Canada, what sort of background checks do they make?
I mean they have the police check from his/her country..What happens on those background checks really!
Curiosity got the best of me here!

Thank you europe Yes I understand :)

My question is what type of investigation do they conduct on the background check. Could it be verification of the contacts you have declared ie: employers, friends etc.?
Does anyone know?

They also run your name across several lists of known organisations that are "unwelcomed" in Canada.

Wow, I feel for you! Any idea why you have been waiting so long? Anything special or unusual about your case?
