Hi I am on work permit and applied for Visitor Visa Parents. Got the Visa done today but I find the validity on them is till my work permit date. I have heard usually the validity of parents visitor visa is till passport expiry date/10 years. I my case its totally different. Is there any specific reason for that or rule change?

This is incorrect.

The validity of TRVs will depend on a number of factors, including the immigration status of the host. Also, even if the host is a PR/citizen, there is no guarantee that visas will be issued until the passport expiry. TRVs are not issued for 10 years.

There is no change in the rule. The maximum validity for your parents' TRVs is until your work permit expiry

For America 10 years is common place (excluding visa exempt countries of course).

That's true. The validity of US B1/B2 visas typically range from 1 year to 10 years (depending on the country).

For Canada, however, a TRV is not issued for a flat 10 years. The maximum validity is one month (in some cases, one day) short of passport expiry

Interesting. I wouldn't know about US visas... but for the rest of America the common TRV is given up to 10 years. Before there were passports given for more than 10 years, so that was the maximum (we are talking like 30 years ago). My wife, before she got her PR, got her TRV for exactly the same expiry date of her passport, which was 10 years from date (I just checked it).

Other American countries that I know for 10 years TRV are Salvador, Guatemala, Cuba, Dominicana, Peru and Bolivia. I wouldn't know if for the rest of America it is the same (but I would assume so).
