Validity of Study Permit exceed Validity of Passport?!

Hi guys,

I'm intend to apply for new study permit for two years outside Canada: the problem is my passport will expire in just 1year.
Can i apply with it? or I should renew my passport?, is it possible to transfer my study permit from the old passport to the new one when it expires?

Hi,

If you don't have a SP yet, the counterfoil issued will expire together with your passport. It is NOT transferable. Therefor, it is advisable to renew your travel document before applying for a temporary status in Canada.

What will happen if I apply with my old passport, because the authorities refused to issue me a new passport before 6months to the day of my passport expires?
I heard some people they have got SP exceeds the expiry date of their passport and TRV, is it true?

You need TRV to re-enter. As long as you aren't leaving Canada you can stay on a valid study permit. Renew your passport once inside 6month time and get the TRV renewal. It is not an issue.

So the CIC VO will issue me a study permit for 2years with a passport valid for 1year?
Even the CIC mentioned on their website:
(Note: The validity of your study permit cannot exceed the validity of your passport. Therefore, you should ensure that your passport will be valid for at least the same amount of time as your requested extension)

Can I ignore this note and apply with 1year passport validity for 2years program length?

Even if your degree is 5 year long if your Passport expires after a year they will give you a one year study permit. You will renew it once in Canada after renewal of passport. This is a standard practice.

You will have to apply online to extend your study permit.
