Validity of PR issued in March-2016

Hello Friends,

I was issued PR in March-2016, we made an entry in March-2016 and returned back in a month.

We received the PR card meanwhile.We intend to go back now again for good.

Could you please let us know if our Visa is still valid and how much time we have before our Visa is expired?

After landing in March 2016 you need to spend minimum of 730 days in Canada between the landing date and Feb/March 2021, that is 5 years from landing.

Based on your post the absolute latest you could return would be March 2019 to still meet the residency obligation by staying after that without leaving to meet the 730 day requirement. If you came back after March 2019 you could get reported at the border on entry possibly resulting in PR status being revoked subject to appeal.

The later you leave it between now and March 2019 then the longer you must stay in a Canada without leaving to meet the RO by Feb/March 2021.

PR status never expires , can only be revoked or renounced so the expiry date on your PR card is irrelevant to your PR status but is relevant to travel back to Canada given once the card has expired you would need a PRTD if outside Canada with an expired card.

Minor point that a PR card is not a visa it is simply confirmation that you are a PR entitled to travel to and enter Canada
