Hello everyone,

Please help with advice/information. The following are my details for context:

My program duration is 16 months (4 terms).

1. I applied for study permit in September 2020 (expecting to start in January 2021).
2. Deferred to Fall (September) 2021 in November 2020, via Webform.
3. Medical Exam : July 24, 2020
4. Acknowledgement from IRCC on webform : November 24, 2020
5. Medical exam update to Passed : January 15, 2021
6. Biometrics : January 20, 2021
7. AIP : January 21, 2021
8. Correspondence letter : February 5, 2021
9. PPR : February 6, 2021

I'm a Non SDS student and I have sent my passport for stamping and I intend to start coming September. The passport is on it's way back. Today in the gckey portal, under document status - it shows a counterfoil expiry date of September 30, 2022.

As per my LOA, my program ends in December 2022. I'm concerned that this visa expiry is before the length of my program duration.

How is the visa validity calculated ? And is the date given to me wrong by any chance ?
Thanks.

The VO has given the dates for Fall 2020. Maybe your LOA was not reached properly on the officer's end or they disregarded it by negligence. Deferring is always a huge risk for getting the dates messed up and sometimes it doesn't work out at all.

The acknowledgement mail I received after I submitted the webform said the details were received and it would be sent to the responsible office processing my application...

Now is my only solution to renew in Canada before it expires ?

Have both of your LOAs with you when entering canada and minimum 3 month before expiry of your permit get an extension, you'll be fine, there are a ton of people having the same issue, both visa counterfoil and study permit are extendable in Canada.
