Hi fellow members,

I am PR of Canada and just (8th Dec) filed spousal sponsorship application for my wife, I am going to visit my lovely wife (in India) for 3 weeks, around Christmas time.
I saw some messages scaring others that sponsor should not leave Canada when sponsorship application is in process, some narrow that to only first stage.

I know that PR's have to apply from within Canada, they can't apply from overseas like Citizens. So I met that condition and filed only after returning to Canada.
The other condition I came across is that PR should keep on residing in Canada while application is in process but there is nothing in Guide about crossing Canada for vacations (Doesn't matter which stage your application is in).

So my question is why and how could PR's be barred from taking few weeks of vacations (as said by few in various threads) ?
Please let me know if someone have personal experience or know someone with similar situation.

My tickets are booked and I am all ready to fly within one week, should I reconsider my decision to take this vacation ?

Thanks

Taking a three week trip won't be a problem - go ahead. It only becomes a problem if you leave for a few months.

Enjoy your trip.

I was under the impression that as long as it is a "vacation" and that you are not leaving the country to setup shop elsewhere you are ok. I applied for my wife on Oct 14 (Received in Mississauga on the 15th). No update yet but when I called in to check, they said I can go on vacation no problem. Heading out for 3 weeks in Jan :)

Yes. but if you go on vacation for like 3 months, even if just a legitimate vacation, it can cause problems. Best thing is to keep it under a month.

This is what I said in another thread

`May be I can chime in. We had applied for my wife`s PR on Oct 28th and still waiting for SA. I am planning to visit my spouse from Dec 26th to Jan 19th so 23 days. I had called CIC and spoke to three different agents and their answer was:

There is no specific time limit on how long you can and cannot stay outside, there is specifically nothing to stop the sponsor to go on short vacations. A short visit wouldn't cause a delay or a red flag but of course if the sponsor is away for 5-6 months that would be considered being a non-resident. Therefore the only way there would be a problem is if the sponsor is away for a long time just leaving his/her life in Canada.`
