Use of Representative

Hi,

I sent a spousal application to sponsor my wife and CIC returned my application for not filling out the use of representative form. Although I did not hire a consultant to do my application, I did it myself but it seems like that as a sponsor I can also be a representative on the application.

Any thoughts anyone?

Did you use the same address for both sponsor and principal applicant? If you did, you need to submit a use of representative form, because technically, you could be getting correspondence that's intended to your wife if, let's say, in the forms she had to fill out she put your address instead of hers. The form is to allow you, in this hypothetical scenario, to receive correspondence on her behalf.

No, in the generic form I put my address as the current mailing address and I put my wife's address as the residential address. As the sponsor I put my address in the current mailing address but yes I did not fill out the use of representative form, so this time I ll fill out the use of representative form but I guess I can also be the representative as well as the sponsor on the application.

This is a somewhat common reason for an app to be returned. As your spouse does not reside at the given mailing address, she needs to authorize a person living there, you, to receive any mail on her behalf.
