I am from the USA and I own a Ford Explorer. I went on their website and checked with my VIN#. They verified that my car DOES NOT have a recall on it. However, the page that says that does not display the VIN#. I know RIV requires the VIN# to be present when you send them a recall clearance document.

I know I can call Ford and ask them this but I was hoping someone had exprience dealing with them already and would be wiilling to share. Thank you in advance.

So my questions are:

1. Anyone with a Ford ever order a recall clearance letter to import (By Calling Ford)?

2. Do you know how long it takes to get a recall clearance letter mailed to you?

3. Will they mail it to Canada?

Update: I happened to find the answer myself

You can order a recall letter from word at this website (YOU MUST HAVE a USA Mailing address to do it this way). It takes 7-10 business days to mail.

RIV will also accept a printout from a ford dealer showing your car does have a recall. it may be different than what you can print out yourself from online.

any ford dealer can do that for you? Or does it have to be a USA ford dealer? Do you know?

i'm not sure. it's on the RIV site somewhere about accepted recall info. it always takes me forever to find it. the RIV is pretty helpful when you call them, so i'm sure they can confirm.

Thanks - I will call after the holidays. I called Ford and they sent me to their website where you pay $18 to get a recall letter. So I was going to do that but Ill see what RIV says.

here it is! scroll half way down (after the vehicle type drop down menus) and it will tell you what's accepted. it says EIETHER american or canadian dealers, and it must show your VIN# on it:
