US Travellers who are not the Citizens or Permanent Residents

Hii All,

I have a question regarding my family member's upcoming trip to Canada who is not a citizen or Permanent Resident.

Since the US-Canada border is opening on 9th August, my family member is planning to travel to Canada. And since he is residing in the United States and has an F1 visa status, will he be exempt from the Canadian travel restrictions and eligible to come to Canada?

In a nutshell, can an H-1B, F1, O1, etc., visa holders be exempt from the Canadian travel restrictions and can travel to Canada for non-essential reasons?

The short answer is no. This opening is only for US green card holders and citizens.

  • August 9: American citizens and permanent residents of the United States, who currently reside in the United States, who meet specific criteria to qualify as fully vaccinated

I assume, from Sept 7, anyone can travel, correct?

  • September 7 (intended start date): All other foreign nationals who qualify for the fully vaccinated traveller exemption

Folks.
I hold a Canadian PR and hold a US Visitor Visa. Do you think it is possible to have a stop over in the US and get my covid test done there?
Thanks

As long as they are fully vaccinated using one of the vaccines recognized by Canada, then yes.

No.
You would have to be outside India for 14 days in order to enter or transit via USA even if you went through a third country. Current US ban (which came into effect on May 5) is for anyone who was physically present in India for previous 14 days. US citizens and residents are exempt from the ban.
