US to Canada travel

Does anyone know if you need a passport to travel to Canada if you are a greencard holder in the US?

i have a cousins who are coming every week with green card to Canada , you will also need to have with your passport of your country , and grren card

I am trying to explain that to my friend but she claims she does not need a passport from her country to travel to Canada. She is saying she only needs a green card. Her passport from her country of origin in expired.

they will ask here to show passport of origin country and also here green card, even is dependce of the immigrations officer if they ask for that or not,. i know sometimes they ask my cousins for the passport and sometimes not, but is better to have it
