Hi my husband and I have been searching for days to find an answer to this. We have most of our paper work done for Sponsorship/PR. I am about to lose my US Health Insurance and can not afford private right now, so I am looking into Medicaid since it should only be for a short period of time. However we have been trying to find if me being on Government Assistance program like Medicaid would get my application for PR rejected? And once I move to CA after the Stage 1 of sponsorship has been completed what should I do for health care? Are there are low cost ones that you recommend? I know I can't use CA assistance cuz that will get me rejected but idk if US assistance will get me rejected or not.

No - being on social assistance in the US isn't a reason for refusal.

To answer your second question, it's a good idea to purchase health insurance to cover yourself for emergencies until you qualify for provincial insurance. Note that these health insurace policies typically only cover emergencies (unless you're willing to pay high premiums). This means that you will have to pay for non-emergency care (e.g. visit to the doctor for cold, medical check up, etc.) out of your own pocket.

You can try contacting a provider like manulife or blue cross to find out their rates.

Thank you both. I'm glad I have company names to look up now. There are so many but having a few to look into at a time helps :)
